The 2009 Michigan Residential Code has an effective date of March 9, 2011.
AFCI requirements will be based on the 2005 National Electrical Code.
The rules as approved by the Code Advisory Committee were amended by the Bureau of Construction Codes due to a concern by the Michigan Association of Home Builders. The Code Advisory Committee never was asked to review the change and the electrical industry did not have a chance to voice their concerns. The Michigan Chapter IAEI fought hard but the Bureau did not listen, the Department of Labor wouldn't hear our concern and neither did the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules. Dispite numerous letters.
